Alpa Care is managed by a team that has strong values in really caring for people.

  • Mitesh is the registered manager, who is also a qualified GP in the NHS. Mitesh has been involved in the care sector since the age of 16. The most important thing Mitesh learned about care was taking a genuine interest in the person who needs support to live a fulfilling and independent life.

Mitesh was involved seeing a gentleman who had a terminal illness. He was primarily cared for by his wife, and he had a carer coming to provide personal care for him once in the morning. The gentleman was being seen by palliative care nurses. He was in a lot of pain, and needed injections of medications to help alleviate the pain, but caused a great deal of vomiting. His carer wasn’t due to see him not for at least another seven hours, and he needed a personal care and attention which included giving him a wash down, a change of clothes and to change his bedding. Due to this gentleman being in pain for such a long period of time, his wife was in considerable distress and also she was not in a position that she can cope with the situation. Mitesh asked the nurses if they would help provide personal care for him. So Mitesh proceeded to put on his apron and gloves and proceeded to remove his soiled pyjamas, working with the nurses to change the bedding. We made sure he was clean and fresh and settled. At this point the medication had taking effect and he was settled for the night. This alleviating a lot of pressure off his wife as she was very worried about his condition. Mitesh said it is important that when we provide care for the people we look after we must ensure they are completely settled before we leave.

  • Annmarie is the care manager who has previously worked as a senior administrator in general practice and also as a dispenser in pharmacy.

Ann remembers one day of seeing a lady walking into the surgery where she worked who was in a considerable amount of pain and she was unable to walk properly. She came to see the doctor, who duly prescribed her medications. Ann attended to assist her with getting the medications from the pharmacy. As the lady was in so much pain and was struggling to walk, Ann called her a taxi. There was not sufficient parking available, but Ann asked the cabdriver to park directly in front to the door to the surgery. Ann offered the lady her arm and assisted her to the taxi along with the taxi driver. A traffic warden was approaching to put a parking ticket on the taxi which was parked in front of the surgery door. Ann went to explain to the traffic warden that he saw the lady was not able to walk properly and she needed assistance to get into the taxi. This reflects in our values of really caring and going beyond the duty of care when caring for people.

  • Mitesh and Ann have carried this through by gaining a fundamental understanding of people requiring care. We are Managers who both are hands-on, engaging people using our service. We foster our strong values with respect to learning.
